    Create a Windows 8 USB Installer on a Mac Using BootCamp

     
Please Note: 

Every version of MacOS and every hardware model has slightly different instructions for installing Bootcamp. 

If you have a newer MacBook, the instructions in this video will be slightly different because you will see the option to create a USB flash drive. Older Macs will not have this option so you'll have to edit the files described in this video.

Macs with Maverics might be different. Search around for a youtube video specific to your OS & hardware. Still, watching the video will give you an idea about the process.






How to Create a Bootable Flash Drive for Bootcamp

HSSOE Computing Support recommends using a USB flash drive to Bootcamp, but instructions on using a DVD to Bootcamp are included below.

    Items you will need:
    Procedure:
    1. Insert your flash drive into a USB slot.
    2. Go to Finder --> Applications --> Utilities --> Bootcamp Assistant.
    3. Select next until prompted with three options, Create USB Boot Disk, Download Windows Support Software, and Install/Remove Windows 7.
    4. Check only the 'Create USB Boot Disk' option.
    5. Select next and you will be prompted to input the path of your Windows 7 iso image which you have saved to your Desktop.
    6. Select your Windows 7 image and select next.
    7. Select continue when asked if you want to format the USB drive. All previous data on the USB drive will be lost.
    8. Bootcamp Assistant will automatically format your drive and copy over the Windows 7 Installation files.
    9. Drag the downloaded Bootcamp Support Files to your new "WININSTALL" USB drive.

    12. How to Create a Bootable Windows DVD for Bootcamp

      Items you will need:
      • Blank DVD (4GB+)
      • Windows 7 image file (downloaded from Dreamspark), save to Desktop
      • CD/DVD reader/burner (in
        cluded if your Mac has a SuperDrive)
      Procedure:
      1. Insert blank DVD into your CD/DVD drive.
      2. Go to Finder --> Applications --> Utilities --> Bootcamp Assistant.
      3. Select next until prompted with three options, Create Windows DVD disk, Download Windows Support Software, and Install/Remove Windows 7.
      4. De-select Install/Remove Windows 7 and select next.
      5. Select your Windows 7 image from your Desktop and select next.
      6. Bootcamp will automatically download your Windows Support software and burn that, plus your Windows 7 image to your DVD.
