AutoCad & AutoDesk Software

There are two options for obtaining AutoCad and AutoDesk Software

Option 1:   Register at Autodesk and download software there.  

• You are licensed directly through AutoDesk using a serial number.

• Use this option if you plan to use a lot of their software on one computer.

Option 2:   Use the network license.

• Use this option if you are on campus network (including VPN) and don't want to register at Autodesk.

Usage Restrictions

• No commercial research

• No facilities use - Designing, constructing, and maintaining an educational institution's campus physical structures and infrastructure is not permitted.

Option 1 - Register at AutoDesk

As a registered student, faculty or staff you can obtain access to almost all of AutoDesk software at no charge.

• • • Go to: http://students.autodesk.com/

    • Follow the "Free Software" link.

    • Use your @uci.edu email address

    • You'll be asked to provide documentation to verify your status

      • • Students - you can use a confirmation letter, tuition receipt, student ID, or transcript

        • Staff and faculty - go to UC Path and download employment verification

    • Autodesk Academic licensed software is for instruction and academic use only. Non-commercial research.

      • • Facilities use: Designing, constructing, and maintaining an educational institution's campus physical structures and infrastructure is not permitted. 

Option 2 - Use HSSOE's Network License 

Students & faculty can use this option if you don't want to register at the Autodesk website

Autodesk software from this download CANNOT be used for any type of campus or department facilities or facilities management. This type of use is in violation of our license and requires a paid commercial license. No commercial research.

Installation Instructions for Network License

1. Download and unzip files. 

2. To install software, right click on setup.exe, select "Run as Administrator".

3. After installing the software, start it.

4. You will be prompted to input network license.

5. Select “Use a network license”, single license server

6. Type in license server (obtain this from labs@eng.uci.edu).

• To manually enter license server or change license:

  • • Go to AutoDesk help (?) select the drop down list.

    • Select “About Autodesk”

    • Click “Manage licenses”

• Click “Change license type” if you want to change the type you license.
